We Reviewed 103 Testosterone Boosters. Here’s the One We’d Buy.
Mars Men has the bigger herbal stack. Nugenix has the name recognition. Adaptophen made the strongest overall case. Here’s what separated the top five—and what to check before spending another dollar.
Adaptophen® 9.7/10

Why it won: a stress-and-hormone formula, documented botanical identity, and the simplest daily routine of the five.

You can spend hours comparing testosterone boosters and still end up choosing the biggest milligram number, the most familiar name, or the best-looking discount. None tells you whether you have found a formula worth taking every morning.
We looked for a better reason to buy. What does each major ingredient contribute? What can the manufacturer document? And what does the product ask of you—in capsules, dollars and repeat charges—after the first order?
That is where the differences became useful. Mars Men earns attention for its substantial botanical panel. Nugenix offers retail familiarity. Adaptophen brings the strongest combination of formula design, documentation, simplicity and buying terms. Here is the comparison, followed by the full reasoning.

Five Formulas, Examined Beyond the Front Label
Adaptophen is our first choice at 9.7/10. Its broader formulation, named botanical testing methods and one-capsule routine make the strongest overall buying case here.

Adaptophen: The One We’d Look At Before Buying Another Booster.
A formula that brings stress support into the discussion. Botanical identity documented by lot. One capsule daily. Every order stays a one-time decision.
The Biggest Dose Did Not Win. The Overall Case Did.
Adaptophen earns our first-place recommendation because its advantages work together. Tongkat Ali and Rhodiola bring the stress-and-fatigue side into the formula. DHEA and Tribulus give the hormone-and-vitality side a distinct role. The botanical identity records give you something specific to examine. And the whole routine is one capsule a day, purchased once, with no subscription to manage.
Mars Men has more milligrams of several botanicals. AlphaTest costs less for a single bottle. Those are real advantages. For a man comparing the whole proposition, Adaptophen gives the strongest reason to stop shopping and take a closer look.
The man buying a testosterone supplement has a more pressing concern than winning an argument about herbs. He still knows how to train, still has work to do, and still remembers what it felt like to have some appetite for the rest of the day. Lately, everything seems to require a negotiation. He would like his energy and drive back.
This is where Adaptophen becomes interesting. The formula gives space to Tongkat Ali and Rhodiola alongside Tribulus, DHEA, zinc and magnesium. That brings the stress-and-fatigue question into the discussion—where it belongs if you are trying to get more out of your working day, your training and your recovery.
You’ve seen why it ranked first. Now inspect the formula.

Your Body Has More Than One Testosterone Dial.
Inspect the actual Supplement Facts label ↗ Every listed amount is visible on the bottle.
Most testosterone products are built around one narrow premise: get the body to make more. Adaptophen starts with a more useful question—what else must be working for testosterone to translate into energy, libido, training capacity and recovery?
Team ANR describes the approach as “brake first, then gas”: pair the adaptogen side of the formula with the hormone-related ingredients. The theory becomes worth considering when you can follow it into specific ingredients and amounts:
Tongkat Ali + Rhodiola
Tongkat Ali has human research on hormone-related outcomes and cortisol. Rhodiola has been studied for stress-related fatigue and attention. That gives Rhodiola a distinct job—beyond adding one more testosterone herb to the list.
DHEA + Tribulus
DHEA is an adrenal steroid the body makes less of with age—not another herb making an indirect claim. Tribulus is best judged by sexual-function outcomes. Two different materials, two different assignments.
Minerals + Cofactors
Zinc, magnesium, vitamin B6 and alpha-lipoic acid support the biochemical environment hormones operate in. Chrysin, deer antler and octacosanol are secondary players—and we say so.
Most formulas are built around one hormone number. Adaptophen is built around what has to work around that number.

“Tested” Is a Starting Point. Ask to See What Was Tested.
A botanical name is easy to print. The powder inside the capsule has to live up to it. For lot 80134, the batch records name the analytical method behind each core botanical—and tie the finished product to an NSF/ANSI 455-2 and SQF-certified facility.
Mars Men discloses an impressive 500 mg of Tongkat Ali, and Nugenix lists 100 mg—but the consumer-facing information we reviewed for those products did not provide comparable batch-specific evidence. A verified 100 mg ingredient can be more informative than a larger number with less documentation behind it.
The certificate is available on request, according to the company. Ask for it. A serious manufacturer should be able to have that conversation. If all you get back is another paragraph about how premium the product is, you have learned something, too.
What verified buyers actually describeHe Wanted More Energy for Work. Then He Wanted to Train.
Celebrity endorsements create recognition, not product evidence. Adaptophen’s more relevant record comes from verified reviewers describing ordinary life. Jason Bartel’s account is worth reading closely because his starting point was ordinary: at 53, he wanted to function better at work.
“Energized”
“Adaptophen has given me energy all day energy wich is what I was looking for. I wasn’t looking to start working out just wanted to perform better at work and everyday life activities however now I feel a need or a want to get in the gym or some home workouts. The Transaction Is Part of the Product.
Count what you actually have to swallow. Adaptophen is one capsule a day—30 capsules a month. Mars Men’s five-capsule serving makes the same month 150. And Adaptophen leaves the next order entirely to you: no subscription, no automatic refill, no cancellation date to keep track of, nothing that bills while you’re not looking. A repeat purchase is something the product has to earn—not something the company assumes.

Two bottles plus shipping total $74.95. Four bottles ship free for $99. The extra $24.05 doubles the supply from 60 to 120 days. All totals are before tax; every package is a one-time purchase.
The four-bottle package makes sense if you already intend to give the formula a consistent place in your routine: the second half of the supply is already there if you decide to continue. If the lower initial spend matters more, the single bottle remains an option. The formula is the same; the package changes the cost per bottle.
Applied Nutritional Research has been in business since 2008—not a temporary storefront that disappears after the first charge. Weighing TRT? Where Adaptophen fits
A prescription testosterone protocol raises serum testosterone into a physician-directed range. A capsule cannot copy that mechanism. The practical question for everyone else: is there a non-prescription formula worth a real 60-day trial before a man walks into a clinic—before the needles, gels, monitoring and shutdown risk?
That is the job Adaptophen is built for. It gives a man over 40 a coherent, one-capsule, no-subscription way to find out whether energy, drive, training capacity and sexual function move enough that a clinic visit becomes a choice rather than a default.
A fair first trial if…
- You want support without a clinic protocol
- You can judge results over weeks, not hours
- You want an empty-bottle refund if it misses
- You refuse autoship as the price of admission
Talk to a clinician first if…
- You already use TRT, SERMs or other hormones
- You take antidepressants, blood thinners or related drugs
- You have a hormone-sensitive condition
- The 100 mg DHEA dose needs a medical green light
A note on study doses versus the label
One detail deserves a straight answer. Talbott’s Tongkat study used 200 mg of a standardized extract; Adaptophen lists 100 mg of root powder. Olsson’s Rhodiola trial used 576 mg; Adaptophen lists 85 mg. The studies explain why the ingredients interest us; they do not establish the response to this exact capsule. Our first-place judgment reflects the complete formulation, the documentation, the one-capsule routine and the buying proposition—with those distinctions left where you can see them. If you want the largest dose of every ingredient, this is not the formula. If you want the most coherent overall package we reviewed, it is.
Adaptophen is our overall choice out of these five. The reason is the combination: a distinct formula, something concrete to ask about its contents, a simple routine, and buying terms that leave the next order to you.
You do not need another promise to believe. You need a better set of reasons for the bottle you choose.

Where Mars Men, Nugenix and the Others Stand.
Each has a reason to be considered. Here is what each does well—and what kept it from first place.
Mars Men: Plenty in the Capsule. Plenty to Examine.
A substantial botanical stack—with five capsules a day, a $118 price and a subscription model worth reading twice.
Mars Men has one of the stronger ingredient panels we reviewed: Tongkat Ali, shilajit, fenugreek and cistanche at 500 mg apiece. It lost points on everything around the label. Five capsules every morning. About three times the current single-bottle price of the highest-ranked formula. And in the Trustpilot accounts we examined (the profile stood at roughly 3.7/5 across more than 2,100 reviews), a recurring theme was unexpected renewal charges, difficulty stopping the subscription, and customers describing months of attempts to cancel. Those accounts are not the only data point, but they are concrete enough that the consumer-experience score reflected them.
Mars costs about three times Adaptophen’s listed $39 single-bottle price—and requires 150 capsules a month against 30.
Mars wins on the breadth of its label. It earns second place because its botanical combination is substantial enough to merit serious examination. The reservations are equally concrete: five capsules, $118, and a renewal arrangement you need to understand in advance.
Adaptophen wins on formulation coherence, one-capsule compliance, documentation, price and the absence of recurring billing. You decide whether the next bottle has earned another order.
Read the full Mars Men review
Mars Men gives the ingredient enthusiast plenty to work with. Four of the names on your research list have conveniently turned up in one product. Before congratulating yourself on finding everything in one bottle, look at which preparations you are getting and what the research actually says about them.
This is where the shopping list has to become a formula. Five hundred milligrams tells you a weight. The extract description, standardization and relevant research tell you what that weight represents. Adding four materials together also does not tell us how the finished combination performs.
Five Capsules a Day, and a $118 One-Time Price.
Mars also offers discounted subscriptions. If a subscription discount is what makes the offer attractive, examine the next shipment just as closely as the first one. The customer accounts below show why.
Customer experience · TrustpilotBefore Subscribing, Read What Happened When Customers Wanted Out.
A supplement company has two opportunities to impress you: when you use the product, and when you need something from customer service. In the Mars Men Trustpilot accounts we examined, several customers described trouble around renewal charges and cancellation timing.
About $90 to start; a $150 renewal
Bought a three-month supply for about $90, stopped using it, then received notice of a $150 charge for another three months. He says he tried to cancel when the notice arrived and could not stop the order.
Cancellation emails, followed by more bills
Described trying to end the arrangement for more than six months.
“And they keep billing me every month, even though I’ve got emails saying I’ve been canceled.”
A cancellation request four days before renewal
Reported emailing to cancel four days before renewal, then receiving a shipment—and a response—afterward. He also described trouble obtaining a refund.
Disputing the charge, answered with the return policy
Said he was disputing the authorization of charges while support kept referring him to the 90-day return policy, with difficulty getting a phone conversation.
A supplement should give you a reason to order again. A cancellation problem is a poor substitute.
The full rating breakdown—and the accounts that cut the other way
Trustpilot snapshot, October 2, 2026. These percentages describe posted reviews; they cannot tell you the share of all Mars customers who have a problem. The record also includes successful cancellations: GWM described an efficient cancellation in a five-star account, and the company stated it refunded and canceled Danny Epley’s subscription. In a September 13 review, Kyle said another three-bottle charge arrived before he had finished the first bottle.
These are customers’ published accounts and the company’s public replies. We have not independently verified the underlying billing records.
Nugenix Total-T: You Know the Name. Here’s What You’re Buying.
Real substance in its branded blends; uneven for the price, and a trial offer that bills on day 18.
Your body has no idea how often you have seen the advertisement. It gets the serving: 400 mg Tesnor, 150 mg elevATP, 100 mg Tongkat Ali—and just 1 mg of zinc. At $64.99 for three capsules a day, the bigger concern is the promotional trial, which is a different transaction from the retail bottle. Trustpilot reviews for the brand (a small sample that has historically sat near the bottom of the scale) repeatedly describe the same pattern: a low-cost or “free” trial that converts into automatic billing, unexpected charges after the trial window, and customers reporting difficulty stopping the autoship once it starts. Buying the GNC retail bottle avoids that funnel; entering the trial does not.
Nugenix wins on national visibility and same-day retail availability. If you want it, buy it at retail rather than entering the trial-to-autoship funnel.
Adaptophen wins on overall formulation balance, documented identity, daily simplicity, value and buying terms. The advertising has already had its turn.
Read the full Nugenix review
Nugenix enjoys an advantage many supplement companies would dearly like to have: you have probably heard of it before opening this article. Familiarity makes a purchase feel less speculative. Unfortunately, your body has no idea how often you have seen the advertisement. It gets the ingredients in the serving.
Tesnor is a pomegranate-and-cocoa blend; elevATP combines peat and apple extracts. Both have ingredient research behind them, which is a better starting point than brand recognition. But the rest of the panel is uneven for a premium-priced product: zinc is present at just 1 mg, and 1,125 mg of citrulline malate is modest beside the multi-gram amounts studied for exercise performance.
The Offer Deserves as Close a Reading as the Formula.
The GNC bottle is a one-time retail purchase. Nugenix’s separate trial program is a different transaction—and it is easy to blur the two if you move between retail listings and trial advertisements.
$25.99 more than Adaptophen’s $39 single bottle, with three capsules required each day instead of one.
One more detail: the laboratory report displayed on the reviewed offer page identifies lot BIO3333, tested March 25, 2024, with a March 2026 expiration. If you are buying another batch, ask which report goes with it. Otherwise the paperwork and the bottle may be answering different questions.
Recognition is powerful. It still is not an ingredient.
MuscleTech AlphaTest: Inexpensive Enough to Deserve a Fair Look.
The lowest entry price here—for a formula a generation behind.
At $20.26 this is the cheapest bottle in the Top 5, with every amount disclosed. Read the label carefully: the serving is two capsules, taken twice a day, so every listed amount has to be doubled. The design is the traditional fenugreek/Tribulus/Longjack trio, with no Rhodiola and no DHEA.
AlphaTest is the strongest pure value play in the Top 5—transparent, inexpensive, from an established company. But its fenugreek/Tribulus/Longjack architecture feels a generation behind the most sophisticated formulas.
The difference is $4.49 a bottle. Adaptophen’s four-bottle Protocol works out to $24.75 per bottle against AlphaTest’s $20.26. The difference buys a different formulation and a one-capsule routine.
Read the full AlphaTest review
There is nothing wrong with wanting the least expensive bottle. This category can consume a surprising amount of money while giving the buyer very little to show for it. So find out what $20.26 buys, using the same scrutiny you would give the $118 product.
The U.S. label lists fenugreek, Tribulus, Longjack, zinc, boron and broccoli. Longjack is another name for Tongkat Ali—count the actual ingredients rather than being impressed by a different common name.
Two Capsules per Serving. Two Servings per Day.
Every amount in the serving column has to be doubled for an honest daily comparison:
| Ingredient | Per serving (2 caps) | Daily total (4 caps) |
|---|---|---|
| Fenugreek extract | 300 mg | 600 mg |
| Tribulus extract | 250 mg | 500 mg |
| Longjack extract | 75 mg | 150 mg |
| Zinc | 7.5 mg | 15 mg |
| Elemental boron* | 5 mg | 10 mg |
| Broccoli | 50 mg | 100 mg |
*The label lists 100 mg of boron citrate at 5% elemental boron: 100 mg × 0.05 = 5 mg. Compare the full citrate weight with another label’s elemental boron and you get a thoroughly misleading result. Formulas vary by market—check the package you actually buy.
A low price is useful. Knowing exactly what that price buys is more useful.
EVLTEST: The Biggest Number on the Label Has a Research Problem.
3,120 mg of D-aspartic acid—and a human trial that questions the centerpiece.
EVLTEST builds its formula around 3,120 mg of D-aspartic acid. A trial in resistance-trained men tested almost exactly that dose against placebo:
EVLTEST gets credit for a readable label and an accessible price. It finishes fifth because the research around the ingredient occupying so much of the formula weakens the case for choosing it—particularly for a man who already lifts. The label answers how much more convincingly than why.
Read the full EVLTEST review
Three thousand one hundred twenty milligrams of D-aspartic acid looks substantial. And it is a substantial amount of material to swallow. Whether it earns that space is another question—and with DAA, we have a human trial close enough to the listed dose to answer it.
Men Lifted, Took DAA, and Were Compared With Placebo.
Both groups improved with training. The exercise program did its job; adding DAA did not produce a measurable extra benefit. That is considerably more informative than the number of milligrams printed on the bottle. Read the trial ↗
EVLTEST contains 3.12 grams plus other ingredients—750 mg Tribulus, 500 mg fenugreek, vitamin D3, B6, magnesium, zinc and DIM—so one trial cannot settle every question. It does address the central sales argument. If you already train, the result is highly relevant to you.
The question is what DAA added to the training. In that trial, no measurable extra edge.
Five finalists, one conclusion.

The Method Behind the Rankings.
A ranking is only as useful as the reasoning behind it. Here is the mistake we set out to avoid, the two questions we asked of every formula, and the six criteria behind each score.
Read the two tests and six criteria behind the rankings
Five Herbs Making the Same Promise Are Not Five Different Benefits.
If you still train, watch your food and put in the work, disappointing results are especially frustrating. Perhaps your total testosterone has even been described as “normal for your age.” You are still left wondering why normal feels so different from how you remember yourself.
A bottle promising more testosterone offers a simple explanation. But a total-testosterone number does not explain every problem with energy, libido or performance. Free testosterone and SHBG—the protein that binds testosterone—also matter.
A man does not experience testosterone as a laboratory number. He experiences energy, drive, training, recovery and mood.
The same scrutiny belongs on the label. When a formula talks about cortisol, DHEA, sleep, sexual function or recovery, which ingredient addresses which outcome, and what human research supports that connection? Naming more hormones is no more convincing than naming more herbs.
First, Ask What It Does. Then Ask What Is Actually There.
If your testosterone were already restored, what useful job would this formula still have?
Imagine a physician had already brought your testosterone into range. Set aside the bottle’s “make more” claims. Is there still a researched case for its ingredients in stress, fatigue, sexual function or another outcome you care about?
A product selling complete men’s performance should have more to explain than the same testosterone promise five times.
What establishes that the ingredient is what the label says it is?
Tongkat Ali makes this question revealing. A published analysis of commercial products found adulterated samples; an authenticated sample also lacked the expected chemical marker.
Ask what was tested, what the test established, and whether the report connects to the material in your bottle.
Six Criteria. A Reason Behind Every Ranking.
Over six months we examined formulas, the relevant research, the available documentation and the buying terms. The two tests guided the comparison; these six criteria gave it structure. Particular weight was given to whether a formula’s purchasing experience left the buyer in control—or locked him into automatic billing.
A sixty-capsule bottle can last sixty days—or fifteen. A study on one extract does not validate another. A blend’s total weight does not reveal each ingredient’s dose. These details change the value of a purchase before you swallow the first capsule.
The Name on the Bottle Is Not the Buying Decision. The Case Behind It Is.
All five finalists give you something to consider. The differences become clear when you put the formula, the documentation, the daily routine and the buying terms beside one another.
Adaptophen is our overall choice. It brings those pieces together with fewer daily capsules and a one-time purchase that leaves every future order in your hands.
Read the label. Read the buyer accounts. Then make the call.
The Answer Depends on What You Value Most.
If We Were Buying One Today, We’d Start With Adaptophen.
The expensive mistake is repeating the same purchase for the same vague reasons. A familiar name, a bigger number and another impressive promise are easy to find.
Adaptophen gives you more to examine: a distinct formula, named botanical testing methods, 316 verified buyer reviews, one capsule a day and a one-time order. Its official page lets you inspect those details and choose the package that fits.

The Questions Worth Asking.
“Why choose this after another booster disappointed me?”
A new bottle deserves a new reason to buy. Compare your previous formula with Adaptophen’s actual label, its Tongkat Ali and Rhodiola combination, the disclosed doses and the documented testing methods. Then read the buyer accounts. The recommendation is a starting point for that inspection. The official page puts the formula, reviews and buying options together.
“I’ve been burned by auto-ship and hard-to-cancel subscriptions before. Is this different?”
Yes. Every Adaptophen order is a one-time purchase. There is no subscription, no automatic refill, and no cancellation date to track. You decide whether the next bottle is worth ordering. The 60-day empty-bottle guarantee further reduces the risk: use the product, and if it misses, the official source refunds the order even if the bottles are empty. The company has been in business since 2008 and sells only through its own site—no marketplace middlemen.
“Is the four-bottle package actually the better value?”
On price per bottle, yes. One bottle is $39; two are $69; four are $99. Single- and two-bottle orders add $5.95 shipping, while four ship free. That means two bottles cost $74.95 delivered before tax, versus $99 for four. The extra $24.05 doubles the supply. The four-pack saves $57 versus buying four $39 singles. No option renews automatically.
“Surely a larger dose means a stronger product?”
It can mean more of the same material—if it is the same material. A root powder, a concentrated extract and a marker-standardized extract can carry the same plant name while being different preparations. EVLTEST’s DAA shows why a large, clearly disclosed dose can still leave the efficacy question unanswered.
“Do I need four bottles, and does anything renew automatically?”
No. Single-bottle and multi-bottle purchases are all one-time, with no subscription or automatic rebilling. Four bottles are currently listed at $99 ($24.75 each) and ship free; two bottles are $69 ($34.50 each), and a single bottle is $39. The four-pack is the manufacturer’s 120-Day Protocol bundle. Reordering remains your decision.
“What happens if I decide it isn’t for me?”
Team ANR backs every order with a 60-day money-back guarantee, including empty bottles. One detail to know: the window is 60 days even when you buy a 120-day supply. Shipping is free on the four-bottle Protocol and $5.95 on one- and two-bottle orders.
